Manifesting 101 - Common Channels:
Common…it’s a dangerous word. We humans are a peculiar species, we’re always looking for the uncommon. Common things cause us to lose interest, but what if this is where the magic is? You’ve no doubt heard the saying “You can’t see the forest for the trees.” Trees are common, they’re everywhere, but does that make them any less special? No, it doesn’t.
Let me share a little story from my own life that I feel illustrates this perfectly. One morning back in the early 2,000’s my oldest son (who was 5 years old the time) and I got up early one Saturday morning, the rest of the family was still asleep. I was making coffee in the kitchen, and my son was standing at the living room window. All of a sudden I hear him freaking out “Dad, dad, you have to come see this beautiful bird, it’s so amazing!” I pressed the “brew” button on the coffee pot and walked over to the window where he was looking and pointing with such enthusiasm. “What is it son?” I asked. “Right there, right there on the bird feeder!” he said. I looked, and honestly didn’t see anything but a common brown sparrow. “That little bird right there!” he exclaimed. Sure enough, it was in fact just an everyday, common brown sparrow; they’re a dime-a-dozen in Oklahoma, but to him, it was the most beautiful, sweetest little bird his little five year old self had ever seen. He saw the magic in it.
Lesson learned. Sometimes our children are our teachers.
This lesson applies to manifesting in a major way. Oftentimes, we as adults overlook the magic of common things in our life, and because of this, a lot of us miss our manifestations, or at least we don’t recognize them when they appear in our physical reality. We miss the forest (our manifestation) for the trees (common things).
This is simply how the universe works, it always follows the path of least resistance. We won’t get into the details of why this is right now, but just know it’s basically because the universe doesn’t waste energy. Think of water on the ground, and how it finds its way.
When we are manifesting, creating our reality, the universe starts to assemble the necessary ingredients to bring it to pass, and it always grabs what’s closest at hand. The Bible, which is the greatest book ever written on manifesting, is filled with examples of this. Let’s take a quick peek at just a few of them.
You’ve probably heard the story before, but if you haven’t, you can read it in Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17 and John 6:1-15. It’s told four different times in the New Testament alone, so I’d say the authors were trying to drive home a point here.
Basically, Jesus and his disciples have a huge crowd of 5,000 people gathered around them. They’ve been following them around all day, and they’re really, really hungry. They need to feed this crowd. Somehow they need to manifest enough food for 5,000 people, and the disciples are stressed out, the crowd is getting hangry. Jesus asks the disciples to find some food. They roll their eyes, the only food available on hand is a little boy’s lunch, a common meal of a few loaves of bread and two fish. Jesus takes the kid’s lunch, blesses it, and it multiplies into a gigantic feast, enough to feed everyone and still have leftovers.
Obviously this is an allegory about reality creation. We have a common little boy with an everyday common brown bag special; and it was these common things that were used to bring about the manifestation. The disciples were shocked, they had expected the heavens to open and angels to deliver everything on shimmering golden platters. It doesn’t work that way.
Another example is found in Matthew 17:24-27. The disciples are walking along the road with Jesus and they bump into the tax collector. He asks them to pay their taxes, and the disciples get angry at this. They’re hangin’ with the King of Kings, why should they have to pay taxes? Plus, they have no money on them. They ask Jesus if they should pay the man and he says “Give unto Caesar what Caesar is due.” Now, the disciples were fishermen by trade, they didn’t exactly walk around with pockets of cash. They ask Jesus how they’re supposed to pay their taxes with no money. Jesus tells them to take their fishing pole and catch a fish. They roll their eyes, but do what he says. They immediately catch a fish, and when they go to take the lure out of its mouth, they find a gold coin, just the exact amount to pay their taxes.
They were fishermen. Fishing poles and fish were common things in their life, and yet it was these very things that channeled their manifestation. Never underestimate the magic of common, everyday things in your life. These are the channels. The universe is speaking to us all the time, using the path of least resistance. A common YouTube video, or a blog post, or a song you hear on the radio can have profound spiritual significance in your life.
Common magic.
