What is the truth?
“These people are always learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (2nd Timothy 3:7)
This is a very profound statement from the Apostle Paul.
When we see Jesus as anything other than ourselves, it doesn’t matter how smart we are or how much we know about the bible, we can never arrive at the truth. This statement makes a lot of sense coming from Paul. He was a high ranking Jewish leader (he was known as Saul during this time). He knew pretty much everything there was to know about his religion, and was always quick to debate anyone who believed different than him. He persecuted people if they disagreed with him. He thought he was so smart, and he wore his authoritative ego on his sleeve.
And then he traveled along the Damascus road…
“When on the road at midday O king, I saw a light from heaven surpassing the brightness of the sun, flashing about me and those who were traveling with me. And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why do you continue to persecute me? It is dangerous and turns out badly for you to keep kicking against the goads (to keep offering vain and perilous resistance). And I said, Who are you, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus…” (Acts 26: 13-15)
Paul had an experience that changed his beliefs about God, so much so, that he completely walked away from everything he thought he knew. He no longer had a viewpoint of God, he became the viewpoint of God; it was so profound that he changed his name, and this is something that we still see today. A lot of people who have this experience end up changing their name, because it’s an outward sign symbolizing the inner change. There was a voice inside him…I AM Jesus.
Bible knowledge is just that, knowledge, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being knowledgeable about the Bible; however, it will only take you so far, what we’re looking for is the truth, the truth that will set us free, and that only comes from personal divine awareness.
The Bible has been consistently referred to as the “Word of God”, but the Bible itself says that the “Word became flesh” (John 1:14), so, we can’t have our cake and eat it too. Which one is it? The Word (Jesus) became all flesh, and until our collective ego stops “kicking against the goads” by trying to see Jesus as someone we pray to rather than through, we will be “ever learning and never arriving at the truth.”
There is a still small voice inside us all, the voice of our true self………I AM God.
In love and light,
